From Sahlenburg you can also walk or go by one of the numerous mud cars to the island Neuwerk. Like in Döse and Duhnen there also is a sand beach. From here you have the best prospect on the sunset over the sea with Neuwerk in the background. From here, by special weather conditions, you can recognize the isle Helgoland as an airreflection near over the horizon, which occurs only completely rarely however. In severe winters the ice blocks pile up themselves in the mud. Directly up to the water borders the Werner forest is laying with the Finkenmoor, which is full of flowering sea-roses in the summertime. The Werner forest is almost over 100 years old, before that there was only heidelandscape. Also recommend is an attendance in the national park center Cuxhaven. Here you can find all that´s worth to be known over the mud region. Sahlenburg belongs to Cuxhaven since 1970 . Many excavation also finds refer to an earlyer settlement. The Galgenberg historically is particularly interesting in the early period as burial place, then at the end of the 17. Century it was used as a court place of the country. In the 19. Century the judgements were still executed here.
